Marmaduke Explained is, by far, my most favorite web comic on the internetz. It’s dry. It’s sarcastic. It’s absurd. It’s unassumingly brilliant. It’s nothing less than a physical manifestation of my inner soul on the internet.
Here’s the latest strip:
Joe Mathlete’s Explanation: Marmaduke is laying immobile upon his owner-man’s lap, preventing Owner-Man from complying with his son’s request to play with some baseball equipment. Owner-Man deflects his son’s entreaty onto Marmaduke; there is clearly at least some degree of sarcasm in the suggestion that Marmaduke be the one to play with Owner-Boy and Owner-Boy’s baseball equipment, as past depictions of Marmaduke engaged in baseball equipment-related activities have involved, at best, wanton property destruction. However, Owner-Man’s unusually desperate facial expression and Marmaduke’s unusually inanimate form suggest that the beast has been dead for some time, leaving Owner-Man pinned beneath his massive bulk and clinging desperately to the pitch-black sense of humor that enabled his survival during Marmaduke’s terrifying, tyrannical life.
